Mike received a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Texas A&M University (1989), and a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Houston School of Law (1999). Mike began his legal career at the international law firm of Fulbright & Jaworski LLP, where he worked for close to fifteen years. Mike became a partner at Fulbright & Jaworski in 2008. He decided to leave big law firm practice in 2016, when he joined with Alberto to form Amatong McCoy LLC. Prior to law school, Mike worked for Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems in Fort Worth.
With a background in both engineering and law, Mike brings a practical, technically informed approach to intellectual property matters. His practice spans the full range of intellectual property law, with particular emphasis on complex, technology-driven disputes involving patents, trade secrets, copyrights, trademarks, and unfair competition.
In addition to litigation, Mike works closely with clients to develop and protect their intellectual property portfolios and to address the business issues that surround them. He advises clients on patent and trademark strategies, protection of confidential information and trade secrets, intellectual property policies and agreements, competitive patent landscapes, and intellectual property issues arising in mergers and acquisitions. He also has substantial experience preparing and prosecuting patent and trademark applications.
